What is Overdraft Protection?
Overdraft protection is a service for members who maintain both active checking and savings accounts. This service will automatically draw additional funds needed to clear a check written or debit card transaction for more than the available balance in a checking account if the funds are available in the savings account.
What is Courtesy Pay?
Courtesy Pay is a service available to qualified members in which the credit union will cover a check written or debit transaction for more than the available balance in the member’s checking account and then charge the account the amount of the overdraft and the current NSF Fee. The member then has 15 days in which to deposit the amount charged to the account and bring it back to a positive balance. This saves the member the additional fees charged by merchants for returned checks and the inconvenience of denied debit transactions.
How do I get Overdraft Protection or Courtesy Pay on my account?
Overdraft Protection can be set up at account opening or added by calling member service. You must have an active checking and savings account to have Overdraft Protection.
For those who qualify for Courtesy Pay, it will be automatically added to your account to cover checks. However, if you wish to include transactions made with your debit card, you must complete an opt-in form with your local member service representative. Accounts must be open for at least 90 days and have all loan payments current. Courtesy Pay is only available for one checking account per member number. If your account is negative for more than 15 days, Courtesy Pay will automatically be removed.
How do I remove Overdraft Protection or Courtesy Pay from my account?
If you wish to discontinue use of either Overdraft Protection or Courtesy Pay, contact your local member service representative to have the service(s) removed.
